Global airline reservation platform outage briefly affected passenger processing at multiple airports; operations restored within minutes.
Air passengers at several major airports, including Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and Mumbai, faced temporary inconvenience on Thursday morning after a technical glitch disrupted airline check-in systems.
What Happened
According to sources, airlines such as IndiGo, Air India Express, SpiceJet and Akasa Air experienced issues processing passengers between 6:45 am and 7:28 am.
The disruption was traced to a problem in Navitaire — a widely used airline reservation and departure-control platform that manages bookings, seat allocation and check-ins. When the system went offline, counters and kiosks slowed down, leading to queues and minor delays.
Duration And Impact
- The outage lasted around 40 minutes
- Passenger processing slowed at multiple airports
- Some flights were delayed briefly
- No major flight cancellations or large-scale disruptions reported
The issue initially affected airlines in the Asia-Pacific region before impacting some carriers in Europe, but services were restored within about half an hour and operations gradually normalised.
Past Similar Incident
Authorities also recalled a major technical failure in November last year, when nearly 800 flights were delayed at Delhi airport after an Air Traffic Control messaging system malfunction forced manual processing of flight plans.
Airport operations stabilised soon after the latest glitch was resolved, and airlines had not issued an official statement at the time of reporting.
