Businessman Raj Kundra was granted bail by a special court in Mumbai on Friday in a money laundering case linked to an alleged Bitcoin scam.
He appeared before the court after being summoned in the case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
What Happened
The special PMLA court allowed Kundra’s bail plea after his appearance.
According to the case:
- ED filed a charge sheet against him
- The case is linked to an alleged cryptocurrency fraud
- The court had earlier taken cognisance of the charges
Court And Investigation Details
Kundra’s lawyer told the court:
- He has cooperated with the investigation since 2021
- All documents are already with the probe agency
- Custodial interrogation is not required
However, ED alleged:
- Kundra received 285 Bitcoins
- The crypto was linked to the Gain Bitcoin scam
- Current value exceeds ₹150 crore
Investigators said he did not provide wallet addresses and claimed phone damage as the reason for missing data.
Background Of Case
According to the charge sheet:
- Bitcoins were allegedly received for a mining farm project in Ukraine
- The deal did not materialise
- ED believes he remained the beneficial owner
The agency also said his claim of acting only as a mediator lacked documentary proof.
