New Building Will House Key Ministries Under Central Vista Revamp Plan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan, the first of ten planned buildings under the Common Central Secretariat (CCS) project in New Delhi. This major development is part of the Central Vista redevelopment plan, aimed at modernizing India’s bureaucratic infrastructure by bringing major ministries under one efficient and unified complex.

Key Features of Kartavya Bhavan-03

  • First CCS building to be completed and operational
  • Will house:
    • Ministry of Home Affairs
    • Ministry of External Affairs
    • Ministry of Rural Development
    • Ministry of MSME
    • Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)
    • Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas
    • Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser

These ministries currently operate from decades-old structures like Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, and Udyog Bhawan, which are now deemed outdated.

🔹 Central Secretariat Plan: What’s Next?

  • Total of 10 Common Central Secretariat buildings planned
  • Buildings 2 and 3 are set for completion next month
  • CCS Building 10 to be completed by April 2026
  • CCS Buildings 6 and 7 will be ready by October 2026

🔹 Temporary Shifts for Existing Ministries

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar confirmed that ministries from old bhawans will be temporarily relocated for two years to:

  • Kasturba Gandhi Marg
  • Minto Road
  • Netaji Palace

🔹 Which Buildings Will Be Retained?

Not all buildings will be replaced. The following are planned for retention:

  • National Museum
  • National Archives
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan (MEA)
  • Dr Ambedkar International Centre
  • Vanijya Bhawan
