PM Modi Inaugurates Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line, Flags Off New Vande Bharat Trains

The 19-km Yellow Line connects RV Road to Bommasandra, expanding Bengaluru’s metro network to over 96 km and easing key traffic bottlenecks.

Bengaluru’s Metro Network Gets a Boost

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the much-awaited Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro and launched the Vande Bharat Express service between Bengaluru and Belagavi.
The PM also virtually flagged off two more Vande Bharat Express trains: Amritsar–Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Ajni (Nagpur)–Pune.

PM Modi took a metro ride to the Electronic City station, marking the operational debut of the Yellow Line.

Yellow Line Details

  • Route: RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra
  • Length: 19+ km
  • Stations: 16
  • Cost: ₹7,160 crore

With this addition, Bengaluru’s metro network now spans over 96 km, serving millions of commuters. The Yellow Line is expected to reduce congestion along Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction.

Foundation Stone for Phase-3 (Orange Line)

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for Bengaluru Metro Phase-3.

  • Total Length: 44+ km
  • Estimated Cost: ₹15,611 crore
  • Corridors:
    1. JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (32.15 km)
    2. Hosahalli to Kadabagere (12.5 km)
  • Stations: 31 elevated

Phase-3 aims to improve connectivity across residential, commercial, industrial, and educational zones in Bengaluru.

Significance for Commuters

The expansion of Bengaluru Metro is set to:

  • Ease road congestion in high-traffic corridors
  • Provide faster, eco-friendly travel options
  • Improve access to employment hubs like Electronic City

The Prime Minister also visited the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bengaluru for the official inauguration of the Yellow Line and laying of the Phase-3 foundation.
Following the event, he departed for Delhi in the afternoon.
