Actress Seeks Injunctions to Protect Her Personality Rights from Digital Exploitation and Fraudulent Use

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Fights Back Against Digital Misuse

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has taken legal action in the Delhi High Court to protect her personality rights, raising strong objections to the unauthorised use of her name, image, and AI-generated content across digital and commercial platforms.

The matter was heard by Justice Tejas Karia, who indicated that the court intends to issue injunctions to prevent such misuse. The next hearing is scheduled for January 15, 2026.

Key Allegations and Legal Arguments

Representing Rai, Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi highlighted several forms of misuse:

  • Fake Merchandise: Rai’s name and photos appeared on mugs, T-shirts, and drinkware being sold online without her permission.
  • Fraudulent Company Association: A firm called Aishwarya Nation Wealth falsely listed her as Chairperson in official documents.
  • AI & Obscene Content: AI-generated and digitally morphed obscene images of the actress have been widely shared online.

Sethi argued these acts were fraudulent, defamatory, and deeply disturbing, amounting to a gross violation of dignity and publicity rights.

Google’s Response and Legal Process

Appearing for Google, advocate Mamta Rani said that the removal of such content would require specific URLs to be submitted by the plaintiff.

Justice Karia acknowledged the broad scope of the reliefs sought and indicated that:

  • Orders will be passed against each defendant individually
  • A common injunction may be issued if feasible
  • The plaintiff can also use the Blocking and Screening Instructions (BSI) process to escalate takedown requests

Next Hearing

The Delhi High Court has scheduled the case for further proceedings on January 15, 2026, and may issue multiple injunctions if necessary to address the various violations raised.

Summary:

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s move to the Delhi High Court highlights growing concerns about the unauthorised and AI-based misuse of celebrity identities, as digital platforms struggle with content regulation and personality rights enforcement.
