Right-wing activist Charlie Kirk fatally shot at Utah Valley University event; authorities release videos showing suspect on rooftop.
Charlie Kirk Shot Dead During Utah Valley University Event
Charlie Kirk, a well-known right-wing activist and ally of former President Donald Trump, was fatally shot while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. The 31-year-old radio host was addressing a large crowd when a gunshot was heard, and he was seen clutching his neck as blood poured out.
Videos Capture Suspected Shooter on Campus Roof
Videos shared widely on social media show a man dressed in dark clothing moving across the roof of the Losee Centre, a campus building located about 100-200 yards from the event area. One clip recorded just before the shooting shows a figure lying near the rooftop edge, while another shows someone running after the shot was fired.
Authorities Confirm Targeted Attack, Suspect Not Arrested
The Utah Department of Public Safety confirmed that Kirk was killed in a targeted attack. The suspected shooter has not yet been apprehended, and authorities have not released any information about a motive. A person taken into custody at the scene was later cleared as not being the suspect.
Rising Concerns Over Political Violence
The attack has raised fears of growing political violence across the US. Recent violent incidents have targeted figures across the political spectrum, including the shooting of a Minnesota lawmaker, firebombing of a Colorado parade, and arson at the Pennsylvania governor’s residence. Last year, former President Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally.
What’s Next in the Investigation?
Law enforcement continues to search for the suspect and urges the public to stay alert. Utah Valley University is cooperating fully with authorities and reviewing security protocols following the attack.
