A chilling detail has emerged in the murder of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) teacher Danish Rao, with police revealing that the attackers continued firing at his head even after he had died.
Danish Rao, a computer science teacher, was shot dead on December 24 inside the AMU campus in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
‘You’ll Know Me Now’: What Happened Before the Shooting
According to police sources, Danish Rao was heading to work when he was confronted by a gunman. Just moments before opening fire, the attacker allegedly told him, “You’ll know me now”, a statement investigators say points to a personal motive behind the killing.
The gunman then shot Rao at close range. Even after he collapsed, the attackers kept firing at his head, police said, indicating a clear intent to ensure his death.
Attack Captured on CCTV
CCTV cameras installed near the scene captured the assailants arriving and fleeing after the shooting. Police said the footage is being examined frame by frame to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify any additional suspects who may have assisted in the crime.
Danish Rao was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Arrests Made, Investigation Ongoing
Police have arrested two accused in connection with the murder and recovered weapons believed to have been used in the attack. Forensic teams are examining the bullets, firearms and other evidence collected from the spot.
Investigators are probing personal rivalry and past disputes as possible motives, though officials said no final conclusion has been reached yet.

The killing has sent shockwaves across the AMU campus, with students and faculty expressing fear and anger over the brazen nature of the crime. Security has been tightened in and around the university following the incident.
Police said further arrests are possible as the investigation progresses.
