Arrest in Gurdaspur: Terror Link Confirmed
The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Karanbir, a 22-year-old operative of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), for his alleged role in the grenade attack on Police Station Quila Lal Singh in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district in April 2025.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), Amit Kaushik, confirmed the arrest on Sunday.
How the Attack Was Carried Out
According to police, Karanbir had hosted two individuals at his residence who were directly involved in executing the grenade attack. He admitted to receiving instructions from a foreign-based handler via encrypted social media applications.
He also confessed to receiving financial support from the same handler in exchange for logistical assistance and executing the operation.
International Travel & Previous Arrests
Karanbir disclosed that he had traveled to a West Asian country in 2024. His brother, Gursewak, also a co-conspirator, was arrested earlier. The latest arrest was made based on leads from Akashdeep alias Bazz, another accused arrested in Indore, who is also linked to the attack.
Babbar Khalsa Claims Responsibility
Soon after the grenade incident, BKI-affiliated individuals — Happy Passia, Mannu Agwan, and Gopi Nawanshahria — claimed responsibility via social media, also issuing threats to Delhi.
Ongoing NIA Investigation
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe and is actively investigating the larger network of operatives involved in the case. Authorities are looking into cross-border links, financial channels, and social media coordination.
Conclusion
This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the case as security agencies work to dismantle terror sleeper cells and networks that operate across state and national borders.
