"My Mind Is Blown": Ex-Google Engineer Amazed by Blinkit's 10-Minute Deliveries in India

Texas-based AI engineer stunned by India’s quick-commerce speed, says US delivery feels ‘so slow’ in comparison

India’s Quick-Commerce Leaves the US Stunned

An ex-Google engineer based in the US is going viral for his amazed reaction to India’s ultra-fast delivery app, Blinkit. Bilawal Sidhu, an artificial intelligence specialist from Texas, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his astonishment at receiving deliveries within just 10 minutes using the app.

“So India has this app called Blinkit where you can get literally anything delivered in 10 mins. My mind is blown,” wrote Sidhu.

Over 2.4 million views and counting.

Social Media Reactions: “India Is in the Future”

Sidhu’s post triggered an avalanche of responses from both Indian and international users:

  • “India is in the future — how do you think they did it?”
  • “Blown away by this when in India… everything feels so slow back in America.”
  • One asked, “Literally anything? Like a convenience store?”
To which Sidhu replied: “Yeah, pretty much! Also, groceries and electronic stuff too, depending on where in the city you are.”

Many Indian users also chimed in, sharing stories of groceries arriving in just 6-10 minutes — some faster than boiling a kettle.

What Is Blinkit?

Blinkit, formerly known as Grofers, is one of India’s top quick-commerce platforms. It was:

  • Founded: December 2013
  • Headquarters: Gurgaon, India
  • How it works: Operates through local fulfilment hubs (a.k.a. dark stores) spread across urban areas to fulfil orders within minutes

What Can You Order?

  • Groceries
  • Toiletries & cleaning supplies
  • Electronics (depending on your location)
  • Personal care items
  • Snacks & essentials

India’s Quick-Commerce Boom

Sidhu’s viral post reflects a global curiosity about India’s booming quick-commerce market, which is now outpacing delivery systems in the US and UK.

Leading Players in India:

  • Blinkit
  • Zepto
  • Swiggy Instamart

These platforms are revolutionising how urban Indians shop, delivering faster than traditional retail stores — and even many e-commerce giants.

In contrast, most delivery systems in the US offer same-day or next-day delivery, often with higher service fees and fewer options.

Global Perspective: Why India’s Model Works

Key Reasons India Leads:

  • Dense urban population
  • Hyper-local fulfilment hubs
  • Low delivery cost structures
  • High demand for convenience
  • Mobile-first consumer behaviour
