Bomb squads deployed in both courts; threat emails linked to political motives and past attacks, no explosives found
Bomb Scare at Bombay High Court Minutes After Delhi Threat
In a disturbing sequence of events on Friday, the Bombay High Court received a bomb threat email just minutes after a similar hoax targeted the Delhi High Court. The Bombay Bar Association promptly requested all staff and lawyers to vacate the premises as a precaution.
What Happened:
- Threat received via email Friday afternoon
- Bombay Bar Association called for immediate evacuation
- Bomb detection squads deployed at the court premises
- Initial findings indicate it may be another hoax
Delhi High Court Also Targeted Earlier in the Day
Earlier the same day, the Delhi High Court was evacuated following a similar bomb threat email. Proceedings in all courtrooms were suspended. The court complex was cordoned off, and a bomb detection and disposal squad conducted a thorough search.
No suspicious objects or explosives were found in either Delhi or Bombay High Court, according to officials.
Alarming Email Mentions Political Motives, Acid Attack Threat
The threatening email, allegedly sent under the name “Kanimozhi Thevidiya”, included:
- A claim that a judge’s chamber in Delhi High Court would be “detonated shortly”
- A reference to recreating the 1998 Coimbatore blasts in Patna
- A threatened acid attack on Inbanithi Stalin, son of DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin
- Accusations against secular political parties and references to dynastic politics
The email further alleged:
“Some people will be eliminated to create a new secular leader,” suggesting Dr. Ezhilan Naganathan as a proposed figure to lead DMK.
It also included a purported phone number and contact to access IED defusal codes — a pattern similar to other hoax emails received recently in the region.
Pattern of Hoax Bomb Threats in Delhi-NCR
This is the latest in a growing list of hoax threats across institutions in Delhi-NCR over recent weeks.
Recent Threat Targets:
- Delhi CM’s Secretariat
- Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC)
- University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS)
- Over 20 colleges received similar threats last month
All were later declared false alarms.
Police suspect the sender used a VPN or other anonymizing tools to mask their digital trail. Cyber units are actively investigating.
Police on High Alert as Investigations Continue
Authorities in Delhi and Mumbai are collaborating to:
- Trace the origin of the emails
- Analyze similarities between the messages
- Identify if the threat is from a coordinated source or a serial hoaxer
The police have urged the public and institutions to stay alert but avoid panic, as security agencies are actively monitoring the situation.
The back-to-back fake bomb threats to the Delhi and Bombay High Courts highlight a disturbing trend in digital threats aimed at disrupting civic and legal functions. Though no physical harm was caused, the psychological impact and resource deployment involved are significant.
Authorities are treating this matter with seriousness and have stepped up cybersecurity and court security protocols.
