Funding to support new academic blocks, hostels, staff quarters, and a state-of-the-art Scientific Instrumentation Centre
Major Boost for Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN)
The Ministry of Education has approved a massive funding of ₹385.27 crore under the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) to expand infrastructure at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) in Thiruvarur.
The investment aims to significantly upgrade both academic and residential facilities, creating a future-ready campus equipped with advanced research laboratories and modern amenities for students, faculty, and researchers.
Breakdown of Approved Projects Under Expansion Plan
The ₹385 crore investment will be allocated across several key infrastructure projects, including:
- New Academic Building – ₹96.40 crore
- 300-Bedded Girls’ Hostel – ₹46.63 crore
- 300-Bedded Boys’ Hostel – ₹46.91 crore
- Scientific Instrumentation Centre – ₹19.95 crore
- Procurement of Scientific Instruments – ₹16.84 crore
- Expansion of Administrative Building – ₹46.16 crore
- Faculty & Staff Quarters (All Categories) – ₹62.97 crore
- 400-Bedded Research Scholars’ Hostel – ₹42.60 crore
Transforming the Learning and Research Ecosystem
In its official statement, the Ministry of Education said:
“This significant investment will enrich the university’s learning ecosystem, vastly improve residential facilities for students and research scholars, and provide modern laboratories and equipment—ensuring CUTN is fully equipped to meet the evolving needs of its academic community.”
The ministry confirmed that the HEFA-financed project will be serviced primarily through Education Ministry grants.
