Actor Darshan Arrested Hours After Supreme Court Cancels Bail in Fan Murder Case

Kannada superstar Darshan taken into custody following SC order in Renukaswamy’s kidnapping and murder case.

Supreme Court Cancels Bail, Orders Arrest

Popular Kannada actor Darshan has been arrested by Bengaluru Police just hours after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail in connection with the murder of his fan Renukaswamy.

The arrest took place on Wednesday afternoon when Darshan visited his wife’s residence in Hosakerehalli, Bengaluru. He entered through the exit gate to avoid the media, met his wife and son briefly, and was then taken into custody.

Court’s Observations on Bail Cancellation

Earlier in the day, a Supreme Court bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan set aside the bail granted to Darshan by the Karnataka High Court, stating that his celebrity status could influence witnesses and affect the trial.

“Popularity cannot be a shield for impunity. Influence, resources and social status cannot form a basis for granting bail where there is a genuine risk of prejudice to the investigation or trial,” the court observed.

The bench also termed the High Court’s decision as a case of “manifest perversity” for factoring in Darshan’s fame while granting bail.

Co-Accused Pavithra Gowda Also Arrested

Along with Darshan, his alleged partner and co-accused Pavithra Gowda also had her bail cancelled. She was arrested from her residence on the same day.

Key Developments

  • Case continues to generate high public and media attention in Karnataka.

The arrest of actor Darshan marks a significant development in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case. With the Supreme Court emphasizing that celebrity status cannot shield anyone from justice, the investigation and trial are expected to proceed without undue influence, reinforcing accountability and the rule of law.
