Two men accused of opening fire at Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s ancestral home in Bareilly were shot dead in an encounter with police on Wednesday. The incident took place during a joint operation carried out by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Delhi Police Crime Intelligence (CI) Unit in Ghaziabad.
Background: Shooting at Disha Patani’s Residence
The case traces back to the early hours of September 12, when multiple gunshots were fired at around 3:45 am at Ms. Patani’s ancestral home in Bareilly’s Civil Lines area. The house, currently occupied by her family, was home at the time to her father Jagdish Singh Patani, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, her mother, and elder sister Khushbu Patani.
The attack shocked the quiet residential neighborhood and raised serious concerns about security, especially given the alleged gang links of the accused.
Gang Involvement and Motive
Soon after the attack, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility through a social media post. Brar — already linked to several high-profile crimes in India — alleged that the shooting was in retaliation for remarks made by Disha Patani and her sister regarding religious figures Sant Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya.
In his threatening post, Brar tagged several of his known associates and issued explicit warnings, which are now part of the ongoing investigation.
The Ghaziabad Encounter
Earlier today, a confrontation took place in Ghaziabad when police moved in to apprehend the two prime suspects. The men opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the police team. Both were critically injured during the shootout and were declared dead shortly after being taken to the hospital.
They have been identified as Ravindra, a resident of Rohtak, and Arun, from Sonipat — both known to be affiliated with a transnational criminal syndicate.
From the scene, police recovered:
- A Glock pistol
- A Zigana pistol
- Multiple live cartridges
A Delhi Police officer sustained injuries during the exchange, and is currently under treatment.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are continuing to examine links between the suspects and international gangs. The involvement of Goldy Brar and the motive tied to religious comments have added a sensitive and complex layer to the case.
Security around Disha Patani’s family home has since been tightened, and further updates from the police are awaited.
