The government has recently banned 25 OTT apps, including ALTT, for streaming what it called “obscene and vulgar content.” Amid widespread media reports, producer Ektaa Kapoor has issued a statement clarifying that neither she nor her mother Shobha Kapoor is associated with the platform anymore.
Ektaa Kapoor Breaks Silence on ALTT Ban
Taking to social media, Ektaa Kapoor shared an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), making her stance clear:
“Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization. Following the amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary), it now operates ALTT wef June 20, 2025.”
She further clarified:
“Contrary to media reports, Ms. Ektaa Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT. They stepped down from their association with the platform way back in June 2021. Any insinuation otherwise is strongly denied.”
Ektaa concluded by emphasizing that Balaji Telefilms Limited complies with all applicable laws and continues to maintain high standards of corporate governance.
Government Bans 25 OTT Platforms
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced a ban on 25 OTT platforms for allegedly violating laws by streaming vulgar and offensive content.
The banned apps include:

Before enforcing the ban, the ministry consulted with:
