This year’s celebration takes a greener turn as 1 lakh eco-friendly clay Ganesha idols are being given away for free. Here’s where to find them.
As Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 approaches, Hyderabad is taking a sustainable step forward. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will distribute one lakh eco-friendly clay Ganesha idols for free across 34 locations in the city.
This green initiative aims to reduce pollution caused by plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, which harm water bodies during immersion.
Key Highlights:
- Start Date: August 24, 2025
- Festival Date: Ganesh Chaturthi begins on September 7, 2025
- Distribution Locations: 34 across Hyderabad
- Idol Size: 8 inches tall
- Material: 100% natural, unpainted clay
- Organized By: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA)
Why Clay Ganesha Idols?
PoP idols, though visually appealing, do not dissolve easily and often pollute lakes and rivers, releasing harmful chemicals. In contrast, clay idols dissolve quickly, leaving no toxic residue behind. This makes them a better choice for the environment.
“If we bring eco-friendly idols closer to the people, the switch becomes easier,” said an HMDA official.
Main Distribution Locations (Day 1):
- Tank Bund
- NTR Gardens
- Jubilee Hills
- Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazaar
More Locations (Following Days):

- Narayanaguda
- Tarnaka

Mobile vans will also reach IT corridors, residential colonies, and gated communities, ensuring accessibility for all residents.
A Festival Rooted in Green Values
Since 2017, HMDA has been promoting eco-conscious celebrations, and this year marks its biggest clay idol distribution yet. The symbolic gesture reflects Hyderabad’s dedication to environmental responsibility during one of its grandest festivals.
With one lakh clay idols ready to be distributed, Hyderabad is setting a powerful example for a pollution-free Ganesh Chaturthi. Whether for home worship or public pandals, these eco-friendly idols offer a chance to celebrate Lord Ganesha while protecting our environment.
