Defence Chief Urges Youth to Join Armed Forces
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Thursday stated that the Indian armed forces remain free from nepotism, calling them the most meritocratic institutions in the country.
“The fauj (army) is the only place where there is no nepotism… You should aspire to join the armed forces if you want to serve the nation and explore the country and the world,”

Operation Sindoor & Disaster Response Highlighted
During the interaction, Gen Chauhan also emphasized the efforts made by the armed forces in responding to natural disasters across the country in 2025.
He specifically mentioned Operation Sindoor, which was carried out following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, most of them tourists.
“The first strike of Operation Sindoor was conducted at 1 AM on May 7 to avoid civilian casualties. Precision night strikes on long-distance targets required special efforts,” he said.
Natural Calamity Response
Gen Chauhan noted that this year witnessed an unusually high number of natural calamities, and the Indian Armed Forces played a critical role in rescue and relief operations.
He reiterated the importance of the armed forces not only in defense but also in humanitarian missions during emergencies.
Message to the Youth
Gen Chauhan’s message to schoolchildren was clear:
- Aspire to serve the nation
- Explore the world through the armed forces
- Embrace meritocracy and discipline
His remarks aim to inspire the next generation to view the armed forces as a prestigious and purpose-driven career path.
