Ghana’s Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah was among eight people killed in a tragic military helicopter crash on Wednesday. The accident also claimed the lives of Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, four government officials, and three airforce crew members.
The crash has been described as a national tragedy by the government, and investigations are underway to determine its cause.

At a press conference, Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff to President John Mahama, said:
“The President and government extend our deepest condolences to the families of our comrades and servicemen who died in service to the country.”
