Ghaziabad Woman Files Complaint Over Forced Workouts, Dowry Harassment, and Miscarriage Due to Abuse
A 26-year-old woman from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has accused her husband and in-laws of mental, physical, and emotional abuse after being allegedly forced to look like Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi. In her official complaint, she revealed a disturbing pattern of harassment, dowry demands, and body shaming.
Marriage Worth ₹77 Lakh Turned into Nightmare
- Marriage Date: March 6
- Groom: Shivam Ujjawal, a physical education teacher
- Dowry Given:
- ₹16 lakh in jewellery
- ₹24 lakh Mahindra Scorpio
- ₹10 lakh cash
- Other valuables totalling ₹77 lakh
Despite the extravagant wedding, the woman—identified as Shanu or Shanvi—faced abuse from the early days of her marriage
Forced Fitness for ‘Nora Fatehi-Like’ Body
Shanu claimed her husband repeatedly compared her to Nora Fatehi and demanded she achieve a similar body:
- Forced to Exercise: 3 hours daily
- Punishment for Skipping: Denied food for several days
- Body Shaming: Called “fat” and “ugly” despite her average height and fair complexion
- Husband’s Behavior: Regularly watched explicit content and chatted with other women online
“He said he could have easily gotten someone like Nora Fatehi,” Shanu stated
Lack of Privacy and Physical Violence
Shanu was not allowed to close the door to her room, and her father-in-law often entered unannounced under the pretext of “checking on his son.”
- Physical Abuse: Slapped, hit with objects
- In-Law Pressure: Demands for more dowry, including an OTG (oven toaster griller) and expensive clothes
- Verbal Abuse: Repeatedly insulted and mentally harassed
Forced Abortion and Miscarriage
After learning she was pregnant, Shanu hoped for support but was instead forced to consume abortion pills allegedly given by her sister-in-law, Ruchi.
- Husband’s Words: “If I can’t accept you, how can I accept your child?”
- Food Laced with Spices: Allegedly caused burning throat and internal damage
- Miscarriage: Occurred after severe complications; confirmed at a hospital visit on July 9
Shanu Leaves In-Laws, Files Police Complaint
- June 18: Parents took her back after witnessing her condition
- July 26: Denied re-entry into her in-laws’ home
- August 14: Filed a police complaint under multiple charges:
- Dowry Harassment
- Domestic Violence
- Abetment to Miscarriage
- Blackmail and Threats of Divorce
She is currently living with her parents and has demanded a full investigation into the matter.
This deeply troubling case from Ghaziabad highlights the ongoing crisis of domestic abuse, dowry harassment, and body shaming in some Indian households. Shanu’s story is a stark reminder that societal obsession with celebrity beauty standards can have devastating consequences when combined with patriarchy and abuse.
Authorities are currently investigating her claims.
