Why Was He Called ‘Human GPS’?

Bagu Khan earned the nickname ‘human GPS’ due to his extensive knowledge of the infiltration routes along the LoC. He was known for helping terrorists infiltrate the Indian border without getting caught. This skillful navigation of terrain and routes allowed him to evade capture for years, making him a key figure in facilitating terrorist operations.

Terrorist Associations and Death

Bagu Khan was associated with the terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen, which has been involved in various attacks in the region. His identity card found at the scene indicated that he was from Muzaffarabad, Pakistan, confirming his connections across the border.

On August 23, he was killed by Indian security forces after they foiled an infiltration bid in the Gurez sector. According to the Army, alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged the intruders. The terrorists opened fire, prompting a swift retaliation from security forces, leading to Khan’s death, along with another unidentified terrorist.

The Army’s Statement on the Encounter

The Indian Army provided an update on X, stating:

“Based on intelligence provided by Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Gurez Sector. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralizing two terrorists.”

The other terrorist, also believed to be Pakistani, has not been identified yet.

A Major Success for Security Forces

The killing of Bagu Khan marks a significant achievement for Indian security forces in their ongoing battle against terrorism. As a key figure in the infiltration network, his death disrupts terrorist activities along the LoC, while reinforcing the effectiveness of joint operations between the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
