The duo, missing since October 20, was found near Milarepa Monastery in Manang after extensive rescue efforts
The search for two missing Indian tourists in Nepal has ended in tragedy. The bodies of a father and his teenage daughter were discovered buried under heavy snow in the Manang district.
Officials identified them as Jignesh Kumar Lallubhai Patel (52) and his daughter Priyansa Kumari Patel (17). They were staying at a local guesthouse and had planned a short trip to Milarepa Monastery on October 20. Sadly, they never returned.
Bodies Found After Three Weeks
Rescue teams from Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF) began a search soon after the pair went missing. After several failed attempts due to bad weather, the bodies were finally found on November 9.
They were located nearly 100 metres above the monastery, buried under thick layers of snow. Officials believe the two may have been caught in a sudden snowstorm while trekking.
Rescue Efforts Hampered by Harsh Weather
Heavy snowfall and poor visibility made the search extremely difficult. Teams had to wait several days before they could safely reach the area.
The Manang region is known for unpredictable weather. Sudden storms often cut off trekking routes, putting hikers at serious risk. Authorities said the Patels may have lost their way when visibility dropped suddenly.
Bodies to Be Repatriated to India
The bodies have been retrieved and are being sent back to India with help from local authorities and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
Officials have expressed condolences to the family, calling the tragedy “a painful reminder of how quickly nature can turn deadly in the Himalayas.”
A Stark Reminder for Travellers
The tragic discovery highlights the dangers of trekking in high-altitude regions during early winter. Authorities have urged visitors to check weather updates, hire local guides, and carry emergency gear before heading into remote areas.
