Late-night host urges an end to “angry finger-pointing” and calls for compassion following the tragic shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel responded with sorrow and frustration following the shooting of Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist who was killed at a college event in Utah.
Although often critical of Donald Trump, Kimmel asked people to stop the “angry finger-pointing” and show compassion instead. On Instagram, he wrote: “Can we just, for one day, agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human? My family sends love to the Kirks and to all the innocent victims of senseless gun violence.”
Charlie Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA and was a prominent supporter of former President Trump. He was shot in the neck during a debate at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Despite quick medical attention, Kirk passed away.
Trump shared the news of Kirk’s death on his platform Truth Social. He called Kirk “The Great, and even Legendary,” praising his connection with young people across the country. Trump wrote, “No one understood the heart of America’s youth better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by all, especially me. My sympathies go out to his wife Erika and his family. Charlie, we love you!”
Authorities confirmed the investigation is ongoing. No suspect has been caught yet. Agencies involved include the Orem Police Department, Utah Valley University Police, the FBI, and Utah’s Department of Public Safety.
University spokesperson Ellen Treanor said, “There is no suspect in custody. It is an active investigation.”
