Lawyer says assets under Sunjay Kapur’s will have been transferred to Priya Kapur, calling confidentiality a “cloak” to fritter away property
In a new twist to the ongoing legal battle over Sunjay Kapur’s estate, the Delhi High Court heard arguments from Karisma Kapoor’s children, who allege that the assets under the late businessman’s will have been wrongfully transferred to his wife, Priya Kapur.
During the Friday hearing, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor’s children Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur, challenged the confidentiality plea filed by Priya Kapur, which sought permission to file the list of Sunjay Kapur’s assets under a sealed cover.
Jethmalani told the court,
“Confidentiality is a cloak under which you fritter away the assets.”
The children’s lawyer accused Priya Kapur of using the so-called “confidentiality” to conceal the details of the estate and prevent rightful access to the assets.
Background of the Case
Sunjay Kapur, an industrialist and the late husband of actress Karisma Kapoor’s sister, left behind a considerable estate. However, disagreements between the family members over the distribution of assets have led to a prolonged legal dispute.
Priya Kapur had earlier filed a petition requesting the court to keep the list of assets confidential, citing privacy concerns. But the children’s legal team contends this move hides the true details of the estate and effectively denies them their rightful inheritance.
What Happens Next?
The Delhi High Court is expected to scrutinize the claims and the petition for confidentiality in the coming hearings. The Kapoor family’s internal dispute over the estate continues to be a high-profile case watched closely by media and the public alike.
