Mahindra Group launches probe after Sulata Deo shares shocking threats on social media; Opposition demands strict action.
The Shocking Incident
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sulata Deo revealed on social media that she received rape and death threats from a Mahindra Group employee, identified as Satyabrata Nayak, who allegedly also has links with the BJP. Deo posted screenshots of the abusive messages and tagged the Prime Minister’s Office, demanding strict action.
In her post, she wrote:
“A worker of Mahindra Company, Nasik as well as a BJP worker openly threatens a woman MP to rape and kill. If this is the situation, imagine what happens to the unprivileged women of Odisha!!!”
Mahindra Group’s Response
The Anand Mahindra-led Mahindra Group immediately issued a statement stressing its “zero tolerance” policy towards misconduct, intimidation, or threats.
The company stated:
- They were aware of the “undignified and inappropriate” messages allegedly made by their staff.
- An internal investigation has been initiated.
- If allegations are confirmed, strict disciplinary action will be taken in line with their code of conduct.
Political Reactions & Outrage
The threats sparked widespread condemnation across political parties:
- TMC MP Sagarika Ghose: Called the incident “shocking and unacceptable”, adding that India is back-pedaling on gender justice.
- Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi: Condemned the threat as “extremely shameful” and urged the Centre to act swiftly.
- BJD MP Sasmit Patra: Said, “A vile threat to a woman MP is an attack on the dignity of every woman and democracy itself. Authorities must act immediately.”
Status of Investigation
While Sulata Deo alleged that top police officials have turned a blind eye and no action has been taken yet, pressure is mounting from political leaders and the public for immediate justice.
This case not only raises concerns about online abuse and threats against women leaders, but also highlights the urgent need for corporate accountability and stricter cyber laws to ensure safety, dignity, and justice for all.
