24-year-old from Hyderabad remains hospitalized after fatal Mecca-Medina pilgrim bus collision
Mohd Abdul Shoiab (24) from Hyderabad is reportedly the only survivor of the bus-tanker collision near Medina that killed 42 Indian Umrah pilgrims.
What Happened
- The bus was traveling from Mecca to Medina when it crashed into a diesel tanker around 1:30 am (IST), according to reports.
- Eyewitnesses say many pilgrims were asleep at the time, which may have prevented escape once the bus caught fire.
- Shoiab was seated near the driver, putting him in a location where he could possibly survive the initial impact.
His Current Condition
- Shoiab has been admitted to a Saudi hospital, but his medical condition is currently unknown.
- Indian authorities and the Indian Consulate in Jeddah are coordinating with his family.
Response from India
- India has set up a 24×7 control room in its consulate in Jeddah to help families of the crash victims.
- The Telangana government, whose many residents were on the bus, is also coordinating relief and support for relatives.
