Newly-Married Couple Found Dead in Jharkhand House, Probe Underway: Cops

A young married couple in Deoghar, Jharkhand were found dead inside their locked rented room under mysterious circumstances, with police examining both murder and suicide angles.

Discovery of the Bodies

The couple — identified as Ravi Sharma (30) and Lovely Sharma (24) — were found dead on Wednesday afternoon in their rented house in Belabagan Kalibari, Deoghar.
Neighbours grew suspicious when the pair did not come out of their home for hours. When the landlord tried knocking and received no response, police were called.

The door was found locked from the inside. Upon breaking it open, officers discovered the bodies lying motionless inside the room.

Forensic Team Called In

A forensic team soon arrived to collect samples and examine the room. Police said the cause of death is not yet confirmed and will be determined only after the post-mortem report.

Deoghar City police officials said they are exploring two possibilities — a double suicide or a murder-suicide scenario.

Troubled Relationship

According to investigators, the couple had been married for about a year and were living in Deoghar for the past few months. Lovely was a local resident, while Ravi hailed from Siwan district in Bihar and had previously worked in Guwahati.

Police sources revealed that the couple had frequent quarrels. Lovely’s family had earlier filed a complaint, after which both were counselled and later reunited. Neighbours also reported hearing an argument late Tuesday night, just hours before the tragedy.

What Police Are Investigating

Investigators are now checking phone records, financial details, and social-media activity to find possible clues.
The door being locked from the inside has made the case more complicated, police said.

“We are waiting for the post-mortem and forensic reports. Only then can we conclude whether it was a suicide or foul play,” a senior police officer told reporters.

Larger Concerns

The case highlights the growing number of domestic-conflict-related deaths in small towns. Experts say lack of early counselling and social pressure often make young couples hide problems until it’s too late.

For Deoghar, where many residents live in rented spaces away from their families, the case raises concerns about privacy, emotional support, and safety in isolated homes.
