Large-Scale Police Action Launched to Ensure Safety During Year-End Celebrations

As Delhi prepares for New Year celebrations, the Delhi Police carried out a massive security drive called Operation Aaghat 3.0, arresting hundreds of people and seizing weapons, drugs, liquor and stolen property.

The operation was mainly conducted in South-East Delhi, an area identified as sensitive due to past crime patterns. Multiple police teams carried out raids at the same time to prevent criminal activity during the festive period.

Police said 285 people were formally arrested under different laws, including the Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act.

In addition to this:

  • 504 individuals were detained as a preventive step
  • 116 known “bad characters” with criminal histories were taken into custody

The aim was to stop potential troublemakers before large public gatherings begin.

During the crackdown, police seized a large quantity of illegal items, including:

  • 21 country-made pistols and 20 live cartridges
  • 27 knives and sharp weapons
  • 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor
  • Around 6.01 kg of ganja

  • 310 stolen or lost mobile phones
  • 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler

Police said the seizures show the wide reach of the operation, which targeted illegal arms, drugs, gambling and vehicle theft.

Focus on Vehicle Theft and Property Crimes

The drive also targeted theft-related crimes:

  • 10 property offenders were arrested
  • 5 suspected auto-lifters were taken into custody

Police said vehicle theft and property crimes usually rise during festive seasons, making early action necessary.
