Pakistan Acknowledges Trump’s Role in Ceasefire Talks
In an official statement released after a meeting at the White House, Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir credited Donald Trump for facilitating the ceasefire between India and Pakistan after the launch of Operation Sindoor.
“The Prime Minister lauded President Trump’s bold, courageous and decisive leadership for facilitating the Pakistan-India ceasefire,” the statement read.
The meeting, held at the Oval Office, reportedly focused on bilateral ties, regional peace, and strategic cooperation. Trump was also praised for his efforts to bring Muslim leaders together over the Gaza conflict.
India Responds: “No US Involvement in Ceasefire Decision”
India has categorically denied claims of US involvement in ceasefire talks. According to Indian officials:
- The Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO) in Pakistan reached out directly to his Indian counterpart.
- External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio relayed Pakistan’s willingness to talk, no direct intervention came from Trump or the US government.
- Jaishankar stated: “There was no call between PM Modi and President Trump between April 22 and June 17.”
Operation Sindoor: India’s Most Expansive Counter-Terror Strike
Following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 Indian tourists, India launched Operation Sindoor—a wide-scale military operation targeting terror camps and military installations across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Operation Details:
- 9 locations targeted: Including Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bahawalpur, Neelum Valley, Jhelum, and more
- 24 missile strikes in a single day
- Key targets included AWACS aircraft, radar systems, and anti-aircraft platforms
Officials said this operation marked a strategic shift in India’s approach, demonstrating its willingness to strike deeper and with greater technological precision than ever before.
Trump-Pakistan Alignment on Ceasefire Narrative
Donald Trump has consistently claimed credit for playing a mediating role in South Asia, a position now echoed by Pakistan’s top leadership.
While these statements are seen by India as political posturing, they have drawn international attention due to the sensitive nature of the conflict and the nuclear status of both nations.
India has maintained that it acted unilaterally and decisively, with the ceasefire initiated only after mission goals were achieved.
