Prime Minister’s Message: Peace, Unity, and Progress

PM Modi stressed the importance of peace and collective progress:

“Any violence in Manipur is unfortunate. It is injustice to our ancestors and to the next generation. We must take Manipur forward on the path of peace and development,” he said.

He invoked Manipur’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle, reminding citizens that the Indian National Army (INA) first unfurled the national flag in the state.

Major Development Projects Inaugurated

PM Modi unveiled key infrastructure initiatives to boost growth in the state:

  • New Civil Secretariat at Mantripukhri
  • IT SEZ Building
  • New Police Headquarters
  • Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata

“These projects will improve infrastructure, ease of living, and create jobs for Manipur’s youth,” the PM stated.

Relief for Displaced Families

More than 60,000 people were displaced due to the 2023 ethnic violence. Many still live in temporary camps.

To address their needs, the Prime Minister announced:

  • 7,000 new homes for displaced families
  • A special assistance package of ₹3,000 crore, including over ₹500 crore directly for the displaced
  • Continued commitment to help people return to normal life

“Those who have suffered should be able to return home soon — this is our top priority,” said PM Modi.

Visit to Conflict-Affected Areas

PM Modi visited Churachandpur (Kuki-majority) and Imphal (Meitei-dominated) to personally interact with displaced families from both communities.

“I appeal to all groups — walk the path of peace to build a secure future for your children. The Indian government stands with Manipur,” he added.

Background: 2023 Manipur Ethnic Violence

  • Ethnic clashes broke out in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
  • Over 250 people lost their lives, and tens of thousands were displaced.
  • Tensions stem from land, political representation, and public job reservations, with accusations of political exploitation of ethnic divisions.
