Air Raid Sirens Sound Across Ukrainian Capital as Tensions Remain High
Powerful explosions were heard across Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, after air raid sirens were triggered in several parts of the city, according to Ukrainian officials.
The blasts were reported ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s scheduled meeting with US President Donald Trump, drawing attention to the timing amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Authorities said the explosions followed Russian missile and drone activity, prompting air defence systems to activate over the capital. Residents were urged to immediately move to shelters as emergency alerts were issued.
So far, officials have not confirmed any casualties or major damage. Kyiv’s administration said air defence units were actively working to intercept incoming threats and the situation was being closely monitored.
The timing of the explosions is significant as they occurred shortly before Zelensky’s meeting with Donald Trump, where discussions are expected to focus on the war, security assistance and diplomatic efforts.
