Sardaar Ji 3 Crosses ₹55 Crore Globally Without India Release

Produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Sidhu, and Diljit Dosanjh, the film is a major international success despite no domestic debut.

International Release Amid Controversy

Diljit Dosanjh’s much-anticipated film Sardaar Ji 3 was released worldwide on June 27—excluding India. Directed by Amar Hundal, the horror-comedy has faced backlash ever since its trailer launch. The controversy centers around the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Amir, following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025.

Global Box Office Success

Despite the absence of a theatrical release in India, Sardaar Ji 3 has performed exceptionally well overseas. According to a report by KoiMoi, the film is doing brisk business in international markets, especially in Pakistan and Canada. By the third weekend, it had reportedly grossed ₹55 crore worldwide.

Team Diljit Celebrates “Global Rush”

A few days ago, Team Diljit shared a celebratory post on Instagram, highlighting the film’s “global rush.” The post stated that the film had already collected ₹52 crore within just two weeks of release.

Diljit Dosanjh Responds to the Controversy

In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Diljit Dosanjh addressed the backlash over the film. He clarified that the movie was shot in February when the political climate was stable:

“When this film was made, everything was fine. We shot it in February and things were okay back then. After that, a lot of big things happened that were beyond our control. So the producers decided that the film obviously won’t be released in India now, so they’ll release it overseas.”

The singer-actor added:

“The producers have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, nothing like this was happening. They know there’ll be a loss because you’re removing an entire territory… Now the situation’s not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them.”

Support from Filmmaker Kabir Khan

Veteran filmmaker Kabir Khan, whose film Bajrangi Bhaijaan recently marked its 10th anniversary, spoke out in support of Diljit. He called it “unfair to target” the Punjabi superstar. Khan’s 2015 blockbuster also explored India-Pakistan tensions, telling the emotional story of a mute Pakistani girl helped home by an Indian man.
