Maharashtra Government Approves Landmark Expressway to Enhance Connectivity and Boost Tourism

Shaktipeeth Expressway to Improve Travel Between Nagpur and Goa

The Maharashtra government has approved the Shaktipeeth Expressway, which will cut the travel time between Nagpur and Goa from 18 hours to just 8 hours. This 802 km long expressway is set to improve connectivity and encourage tourism in the region.

About the Shaktipeeth Expressway Project

The expressway will connect major Shakti Peeths in Maharashtra, starting from Paunar in Wardha and ending at Patradevi in Sindhudurg, near the Goa border. It will pass through 12 districts and affect 370 villages. The expressway will be a greenfield and access-controlled road, designed to improve travel and support religious tourism in the state.

The ₹20,000 Crore Investment

The total cost of the expressway is around ₹20,787 crore. The HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation) has already approved ₹12,000 crore for land acquisition. Over 7,500 hectares of land will be required for the project, which is expected to create significant infrastructure improvements.

Challenges: Farmers’ Concerns

The expressway has faced some protests, especially from farmers worried about losing their farmland. Because of this, the initial work was delayed. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has promised to work with the farmers and address their concerns before proceeding with land acquisition.

Other Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, another major project, is expected to cut the travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from 5–6 hours to just 2 hours and 15 minutes. It will also improve regional connectivity and boost the economy.

A Step Forward for Maharashtra

The Shaktipeeth Expressway is a game-changer for Maharashtra. It will reduce travel time, improve regional connectivity, and promote religious tourism. This project is expected to drive economic growth and make Maharashtra more accessible to both tourists and pilgrims.
