Ex-India cricketer Vinod Kambli continues to battle health issues after hospitalization for urinary infection; family urges fans for prayers and support.
Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, who represented India in 104 ODIs and 17 Tests, has been facing ongoing health challenges. His younger brother, Virendra Kambli, recently shared an update revealing that Vinod is still recovering at home in Bandra after being admitted to Akruti Hospital, Thane, for a urinary infection and cramps in December 2024.
Virendra spoke about Vinod’s current condition on The Vickey Lalwani Show:
“He is at home right now. He is getting stable, but his treatment is ongoing. He is having difficulty speaking, and it will take him some time to recover. But he is a champion, and I have faith he will come back, start walking, and running soon. I hope to see him back on the ground.”
Medical Treatment and Rehabilitation
Virendra further explained Vinod’s medical journey:
- Underwent rehab for 10 days
- Complete body check-up including brain scans and urine tests, all mostly normal
- Unable to walk initially, advised physiotherapy
- Speech is still slurred but improving gradually
“He needs love and support from everyone. I request all to keep praying for his recovery,” Virendra added.
Family Concerns: Emotional and Financial Struggles
Vinod’s personal life has also been under strain. His wife, Andrea Hewitt, revealed in a podcast that she had filed for divorce in 2023 but withdrew it due to his fragile state.
Andrea shared her worries about Vinod’s condition:
“He is like a child now, helpless. There were times I thought of leaving, but I worried if he had eaten or was resting properly. I realized he needed me.”
What’s Next for Vinod Kambli?
While the road to full recovery is long, the Kambli family remains hopeful and urges fans to continue their prayers and support for the former cricket star.
Vinod Kambli’s health and personal challenges remind us how important family, faith, and community support are in times of crisis. We all hope to see the champion back on his feet and the cricket field soon.
