Bihar Minister Chased and Attacked by Villagers Over 9 Deaths in Road Accident

Angry locals confront Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar over delayed response and lack of compensation

Minister’s Visit Sparks Fury

Bihar’s Rural Development Minister, Shrawan Kumar, faced angry villagers who chased him for nearly 1 kilometer and attacked his convoy during a visit to Jogipur Malawan village. The visit aimed to meet families of nine victims who died in a road accident last week, but the reaction was far from welcoming.

Locals Demand Justice and Compensation

  • The minister, accompanied by a local MLA, arrived Wednesday morning to express condolences.
  • Villagers accused the politicians of insensitivity and delayed visit.
  • No compensation had been given to the families, escalating the anger.
  • The crowd surrounded the minister and tried to attack him and the MLA.

Despite the chaos, the politicians escaped unharmed. However, the minister’s bodyguard was injured and hospitalized at Hilsa Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Police Intervene, Security Tightened

  • Villagers chased the minister’s convoy for almost 1 km after the visit.
  • Police stepped in to disperse the crowd and increased security measures in the area.

Political Reactions and Criticism

JD(U) spokesperson Dhananjay Dev acknowledged local dissatisfaction, citing frustration with the minister’s working style.

Political strategist Prashant Kishor criticized the Nitish Kumar government, highlighting a pattern of unrest:

“Nitish Kumar’s government beat up students, anganwadi and Asha workers, sarpanchs in Patna. Now it is the turn of the public. When they go to ask for votes, the public will chase them away.”

The incident underscores growing public dissatisfaction with government responsiveness in Bihar, especially after tragic accidents. Authorities face pressure to address compensation and support to victims’ families swiftly.
