Health-conscious Indians are driving a record rise in vegan meal orders, with plant-based protein dishes dominating food delivery platforms and restaurant menus.

India’s plant-based food revolution is officially here. According to a new market insight report released on July 22, 2025, the country has witnessed a remarkable 60% rise in vegan food orders in the first half of the year. The shift is largely attributed to rising health consciousness, environmental concerns, and increasing celebrity and influencer advocacy of the vegan lifestyle.

🌱 Veganism Finds Strong Roots in Urban India

The surge is most prominent in Tier-1 cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Pune, and Hyderabad, where vegan-friendly restaurants, cafes, and cloud kitchens have doubled in the past year. Food delivery giants Zomato and Swiggy have reported an exponential increase in searches and orders for plant-based meals.

“The demand for jackfruit biryani, tofu tikka, and almond-milk lattes has exploded,” said a spokesperson from Zomato.
